This is one I did back in 2003, its the Village Shops in Vero Beach. It started out as a plein air, I didn't like it and re-painted it. Then I unpacked it recently and thought I would tweak it some more. I am finally happy with it now.
Its 12 by 16 inches, oil on masonite.
Florida Plein Air oil paintings, stormy landscapes, hurricanes, travel.

SOLD 1700 Garden in a Palm Tree
SOLD have been wanting to do a painting like this for ages, I have always been charmed by plants using a palm tree as a host for them to live upon. This one is based on a tree at Heathcote Botanical gardens which has the vine and bromeliads growing up the palm. I took some liberties with the background, wanted it to be abstract so the viewer could see what they wanted in it.
I was using my new water mixable oils, had read you cannot mix them with water. I don't know where that idea came from, but I hadn't read those directions (?) when I started using them. It looks like it works fine, I used them about like watercolors in the back, got them totally liquid and dripped them onto the panel, tipping it this way and that to get interesting flow patterns.

1699 Sunny Day at Heathcote Botanical Gardens
This one is a little different, its water mixable oils on watercolor paper. I forgot to bring a panel to paint on! So my friend Trude gave me a sheet of her paper. I had gotten a gift card from Jerry's Artarama for my birthday and I bought a set of the water mixable oils to try out. I also bought a new bag and reorganized all my painting gear and that is why the panel got left out. It was a lot of fun to try something new.
That is Heathcote's Jacaranda tree to the right, its in bloom now and very pretty. The gardens look very lovely right now, flowers everywhere.
I used the w.m. oils like watercolors, thinned down with plenty of water and also as oils applied thickly. When the paint is thinned down its very transparent and has that glow to it that watercolors can have. I just used a couple of brushes on this one and didn't use my knife.
The painting is 8 x 8 inches, special price of $150.

1698 House in the Woods Plein Air
I started this one last Thursday out at White City Park. I got it mostly finished, I had the background already in and thought the house would look good there. I used mostly what was on the palette from my first painting. When I got home I tweaked it a little and finished it.
The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on masonite.

1697 SOLD Fox in the Wood Miniature oil painting
SOLD This is one of those paintings that started out with the background already there, it was leftover paint from my palette. I am getting a fair amount of these now and the weather is getting hot so probably will be doing less plein air painting. They are fun to do when I get in the right frame of mind to see things in the background and bring them out.
This one started with the trees and then grass, added the ravens and it still looked like it needed something. There was kind of a shadow where the fox was so I added him in.
The painting is 4 x 6 inches, oil on masonite.

1695 Cool Morning on the North Fork Plein air alla prima
Beautiful day today out at White City Park, its starting to get hot but I found a nice breezy spot in the shade. Saw a manatee right in front of me, it came up and just laid in the water, not moving and then sunk back underneath. The air plants are blooming on the trees and there were some beautiful bougainvilleas across the water.

1688 Happy Red Hibiscus Painting plein air Alla Prima
I have been going through my paintings lately, they are in need of organizing. My husband is making me some nice wooden storage boxes and I have been taking the paintings out of their old cartons and putting them into the new boxes. Some of the paintings were at shows and were framed, this was one of them.
This one never got put into my blog, it was made back in 2012 at one of the Souvenirs of Downtown paint outs. I remember painting it, was on 2nd street in some nice people's side yard, they let us paint there. The paint outs worked like this, you would paint a painting, frame it and bring it back to the Backus House on 2nd street. They would hang it and if there was time and you had energy you could go out and do another. Then in the evening they would have a reception or two and people could purchase the paintings. They always had great food and it was a lot of fun. I don't know if they are doing it any more, I think there have been some changes made.
Its unframed now but shipping is free!

1687 Rising Tide, Old Fort Park, Plein air alla prima
This is down on the river bank by the Old Fort Park. The sea grape is leafing out with its bright leaves, I love how the sun shines through them like stained glass. Very windy and chilly, the painting was started and blew down on my palette right after I started so I had a line of dots on the bottom of the painting, it was fun to work with some un-planned colors. Then on the photo below, I was about half finished and you can see the tide is washing over my easel's feet. I somehow moved fast enough so I didn't get my feet wet. The small dark dot in the water by the sand bank is a bug, I'll remove it when its dry.
I really didn't want to get out of my nice warm nest this morning but I was glad I did, it was beautiful out.

1683 Windy Day at Indian Hills Recreational Area, Plein Air
I did this one a few weeks ago with my plein air group. I needed a stretch and thought I would go talk to some of my friends. When I came back the easel had blown over and the painting was sprinkled with sand and dirt. So I had to stop there, took it home and waited for it to dry so I could get the dirt off. Tweaked a few spots and here it is.
