1730 Sunny Impatiens, Plein Air Alla Prima

Painted this the other day at Heathcote Botanical Gardens, these impatiens were glowing in the sun.  I had a lot of fun painting with my friend Betty.  We had left our orange paint at home, I remembered I had pink opera paint and gave her some.  It makes a super orange when mixed with yellow.  With these flowers here I needed a cool red like alizarin crimson, I had left mine at home and she gave me some of hers.
The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on masonite.

1627 SOLD Banana Trees at Heathcote Botanical Gardens Plein Air Alla Prima

SOLD  I had fun painting this today at Heathcote's butterfly garden, it was very pretty there today as usual.  Lots and lots of butterflies, saw zebras, giant swallowtails and the caterpillars from the pipevine swallowtail in the dutchman's pipe vine.  Saw some others, I think a cloudless sulpher, big yellow one. The flowers are lion's ear and verbena. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas that is mounted on masonite.

1518 SOLD Pink Blossoms

SOLD This is a fantasy painting, I was just playing.  There is this tree at Heathcote botanical gardens that sort of looks like this, has small pink flowers and  gnarly looking trunk and branches.  It was loosely based on that tree.     Its 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.  This painting is sold but if you would like a similar one I would be happy to paint one for you.

Daily Painting 1060 SOLD A day in the Gardens Plein Air Alla Prima

SOLD Its been one of those weeks, the fridge died Friday and I have been trying to keep food cold and find a new fridge that will fit where the old one was. Its kind of a small hole and the doors into the house aren't that big either. Finally found one Sunday and got it on Monday.

It sure felt good getting out and painting today at Heathcote Botanical Gardens. It was lovely out and afterwards one of my fellow painters treated me to lunch at Mangrove Matties!

The painting is 8 x 10, oil and mainly painting knife, it has lots of texture.

Here is today's, this pot of flowers is about 20 feet away from yesterday's flowers. I thought the two made a nice set so put them into some digital frames together below.
