1703 Pepper Park Palms

Another one I tweaked, it started out as a plein air painting from 2005, I liked the composition but the sky was boring and the colors weren't thrilling either.  So I took some liberties with the scene and added some flowers and boosted up the colors.  Probably doesn't look like Pepper park any more but I am much more happy with it.

Its 12 by 16 inches, oil on masonite. $500.

1695 Cool Morning on the North Fork Plein air alla prima

Beautiful day today out at White City Park, its starting to get hot but I found a nice breezy spot in the shade. Saw a manatee right in front of me, it came up and just laid in the water, not moving and then sunk back underneath.  The air plants are blooming on the trees and there were some beautiful bougainvilleas across the water.

The painting is oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches,

1674 Meandering Backwaters plein air alla prima

I painted this today at Richard E. Becker Preserve. Its on Ten Mile Creek, part of the headwaters of the North Fork of the St. Lucie River.  So I kind of messed up with the title of the painting, should have been Meandering Headwaters.  But I like the Backwaters idea better, it feels like you are going back in time at the preserve, lots of tannin in the water, mesmerizing shadows and swirls just under the surface.  I saw one shadowy swirl in the water, looked like a monitor lizard, one of my friends thought it was an alligator.  But it wasn't dark, was light brown, had four legs, tail and head.  So I get up to see and its just a swirl, no animal at all.  I had lots of fun as always.

8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

1668 The Sun Came Out! Plein Air Alla Prima

I did this today at George La Strange park, it started out all grey and drizzly but then the sun came out right about when I was dithering about what to do about the shadows.  The trail goes all around the little lake, sometime I hope to have time to hike all around it.

The birds are American coots, they were fun to listen to, they make lots of weird sounds.

Its 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.  Lots of nice juicy textures.
