Daily Painting 1397 Tabebuia Tree at the Backus House
This is unavailable at the moment, its one of the paintings I did at the Backus House Souvenirs of Downtown paintout. I had a wonderful time, it was wonderful visiting with everyone. We got treated beautifully, got three meals every day! The first dinner was just for the artists, that was really nice. Then there were two nice receptions, during the big one there was a big rain storm so there weren't as many people coming out, mainly artists and their friends and families.
The painting is 8 x 10, oil on masonite. There is a yellow tabebuia tree next to the Backus house and in the back is the melon colored cottage.
I did six other paintings over the three days, I was pretty happy with most of them.

Daily Painting 1396 Saint Lucie River North Fork Vista White City Park
I took a walk in White City park with my husband on this new trail. The trail isn't new but it was new to me. There isn't a whole lot to see till you get to the end where there is a bench that over looks this lovely view. This is just part of the view, there is something nice to see all around. This was done at Heathcote Botanical Gardens here in Fort Pierce. There is this huge clump of white begonias, big huge leaves on them. There are some smaller ones growing around the big ones. This was done all with the painting knife, no brush. Its got some nice textures. The painting is 8 x 10 inches,

Daily Painting 1385 SOLD Big Seascape Painting With Fisherman and Great Blue Heron
SOLD This is what I have been working on lately for days! It was a commissioned painting, 40 x 60 inches, oil on gallery wrapped canvas. The fisherman is 5 inches tall to give an idea of scale. I enjoyed painting it, it was nice to do something so big for a change, nice to get it finished too! Below are the great blue heron and fisherman. The client saw one of my smaller paintings, Daily Painting # 1367, "A Calming View" and wanted to know if I could make a big one for her with the birds and her husband fishing. So here it is.

Daily Painting 1383 "Colors of the Day" Chunky, Thick, Palette Knife oil Painting
I was in the mood for something different, started this with golden brown paint sort of sepia. I was painting at Treasure Coast Art Association with some of my friends and the one walked by and said it looked like sh--! Well at that point it did, it was all brown. I was thinking, "this does look really bad, I hope I can pull it off."I added a whole bunch of other colors and here it is. I didn't use a brush at all, its all painted with the painting knife. Lots of fun to paint. Click on it to see it better, its got lots of thick texture. Its oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches, to purchase just click on the yellow Paypal button.

Daily Painting 1375 In for the Day Blue sailboat plein air alla prima
I did this today by the marina in Fort Pierce, changed the background to a more natural area instead of the parking lot and cars and other boats, buildings, etc. It was a beautiful day, had lots of nice company, other artists and nice people who liked my painting. (even when it was a lot of blobs) Saw a family of manatees and a few pods of dolphins. The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on masonite,

Daily Painting 1374 Manatee Center, Fort Pierce, Plein Air Alla Prima
I painted this today looking towards the Manatee Center here in Ft. Pierce, it was perfect out and I had lots of good company. Even saw three manatees!Had a some people stand right in front of what I was trying to paint, I wonder how other artists deal with that, I thought what I should have said was, "If you all don't move I will paint you into the picture!"
Its 8 x 10, oil on masonite,
Daily Painting 1373 Twilight Bay
The painting is oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches. This got started a few weeks ago, I had some leftover paint on my palette and rather than throw it away I put it on a blank panel. I started doing some negative painting, that is removing paint here and there and watching out for shapes. I let it all dry and came back to it today, finished it up.

Daily Painting 1371 Royal Terns at Pepper Park
The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on masonite. This was painted from a photo my son took. I had a time identifying the terns, thought they were gulls at first and finally found some good information on them. These have the winter plumage, they look different at other times of the year so that made it harder for me to tell what they were.

Daily Painting 1370 SOLD Hibiscus Aglow
SOLD I have some of these small stretched canvases, they are 6 x 8 inches and came in nice gold colored frames. This is one of them I had put some left over paint on to get rid of the stark white canvas. When I am out of ideas sometimes I can see things in the paint and in this one I saw the hibiscus so here it is.There are some little flecks of colors in the leaves, I was holding the canvas up to get a good view and it slipped out of my fingers and fell wet side down onto my palette full of paint. I picked it carefully straight up and saw the dots of paint. I liked how they looked for the most part, I got rid of a few I didn't like and added a few more.
The painting is available framed for $125. You can contact me if you would like it without the frame.

Daily Painting 1369 Pepper Park Century Plants
I did this from a photo I took at Pepper Park here in Fort Pierce. There is a whole grove of the century plants in bloom there, its at the north end of the park on the beach side. I love how they look, like giant sculptures. A few years ago I was able to get on ground there and paint but now lots of plants have grown up and I can just see it from the dune crosswalk. The painting has lots of nice textures, is 5 x 7 inches, oil on masonite,

Daily Painting 1368 Pepper Park Lane Plein Air Alla Prima
I did this at Pepper Park here in Fort Pierce. I took some artistic liberties, made the asphalt into a dirt road. Other than that its pretty close to what is there. If you look into the distance you can see you can take a left, that will lead you out of the park and if you take a right you get to where you can go walk on some nice docks. Its 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

Daily Painting 1367 A Calming View
I did this one last week, loosely based on a photo I had taken at Pepper Park. I "grew" the palm tree up a bit and removed some bushes that were in the way of the ocean. The rest is as it was, the sea grapes are beautifully colored right now. To purchase you can just click the yellow paypal button below. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

I did this one at the open studio at Art Mundo last night, it was lots of fun painting with everyone. I worked from a photo I took from one of the boardwalks at Pepper Park on Tuesday. I loved all the colors, the seagrapes look so pretty now. The paint is nice and thick on this one, I enjoyed piling it on. The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on masonite. $100.

Daily Painting 1365 Seagrape Splendor Plein air Alla Prima at Pepper Park
I painted this today at Pepper Park. This is on the Indian River side of the park. I started walking around on the ocean side, it was beautiful and I saw a lot of nice scenes to paint but it was very bright out with no shade where I would have to be.I did some editing of the scene, in real life there is a dark black asphalt drive where the sandy trail is. I also left out the trash can and dock. The sea grapes are gorgeous right now, bright red and orange, each leaf is a work of art if you zoom your sight in. It feels so much like fall now, our hickory trees are golden and there are red Virginia creeper vines all over.
The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

Daily Painting 1363 SOLD The Bismark Palm at Heathcote Botanical Gardens
SOLD I painted this today at Heathcote Botanical Gardens here in Fort Pierce. I have painted this palm before, it has grown a lot taller since I have been painting it. The fronds have changed colors too, when it was young they were a silvery gray. I took some liberties with the background, there are some white walls I didn't care for so I got rid of them. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite. No brush used at all, its all the pallet knife and some blending with my fingers. Monday, January 16, 2012
Daily Painting 1362 Sheltered Bay Indian River Lagoon
It was hard for me to get painting today, I wasn't feeling too inspired. I cut up an old T-shirt for paint rags and looked through my sketch book. I had a sketch that was sort of like this scene and started painting it. It was hard to stop once I got started. There is some glare on the right, I got busy and couldn't get a photo till tonight. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite,

Daily Painting 1361 Pelican Pair on the Indian River

This one took a bit longer than usual, I had started the painting and ran out of time, thought I just needed to tweak one of the beaks. I picked it back up today and 40 minutes more of more tweaking than just the beak I feel it is finished. Its oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches. I used one of my son's photos to paint from, his photo blog is here: http://garysphotog.blogspot.com/

Perfect day today, the main difficulty I had was there is so much to choose from to paint! Those are impatiens in the flower pot and some kind of begonia with huge leaves next to it. In the back is the bauhinia orchid tree which is in bloom too. The bright pink plant is a dracaena. The painting is in oil, nice thick texture. Its 8 x 10 inches,

Daily Painting 1356 Indian River Live Oaks Plein Air Alla Prima
I painted this at the site of the original old fort that Fort Pierce is named after. There is a little park there on Indian River Drive and its a nice place to paint. Someday before I get too old and decrepit I have to work out a small plein air set up so I can climb down the river bank and paint from there, its really pretty down at the shore.
