SOLD I never thought back in September 7, 2006 that I would do 1000 daily paintings. I was thinking maybe I would do 100 or do it for a year. I didn't do them quite every day but I came pretty close. Life and energy gets in the way at times. It seems kind of unreal to me that I have done this, its not something I had a goal for, I never said I will paint 1000 paintings. Actually I have painted quite a few more, some hundreds, I just started keeping better records when I began the Daily Paintings.
This one is 8 x 10, it was commissioned. The House of Refuge is very cool, they used it for shipwrecked people to stay at.
Florida Plein Air oil paintings, stormy landscapes, hurricanes, travel.

Daily Painting 999 SOLD Deep Woods
SOLD This one was fun, I started it awhile ago, it was a drip painting. Thin paint is dripped on to the panel and tilted up so the paint runs and then I kind of direct some of the drips with my brush and look closely at the painting to see how I want to develop it. I didn't see much at the time, saw the two larger trees and figured I would do something with them when it dried. So I picked it up and finished it, changed the colors, it was just purples and blues.
Its oil, 5 x 7 inches on masonite.

Daily Painting 998 Grand View of the Savannas
This is from a sketch I made the last time I was at the Savanna's Recreational Area. I like to do a sketch before I paint to warm up and to also see any problems with composition. Sometimes I work from the scene then and there and sometimes I will work on it later. Its on a hardwood plywood panel 5 x 7 inches.

Daily Painting 995 SOLD Deep Waters in the Savannas
SOLD Its oil, 5 x 7 inches on luan plywood. I had this photo of the area but I just used the photo as a jumping off place and pretty much made up the scene. The front grass is there and the water but the rest is fantasy. In real life there is a bottle brush tree on the grass but I had already painted that. Lots of juicy texture from the painting knife.

Daily Painting 993 Trail in the Oxbow Dahoon Holly Palmettos Plein Air Alla Prima
I was painting this in the Oxbow Eco Center and two groups of children on a field trip walked by. The rangers asked them if their parents liked coffee and it turned out all of them did. The rangers then told them about the wild coffee plants there that the settlers used for their coffee but they said coffee made from them tastes awful. Some day I'll have to try some, and paint some too, they are pretty. There are some blue berries in the painting, I forget what the rangers said they were, they told the children not to eat them, they would cause tummy troubles of the violent sort. The wild grapes they said were good. (most of the wild grape I have had were small, seedy and sour) There is one wild grape vine in my yard that has pretty good grapes, they are small seedy and sweet. The tree is a dahoon holly that I have heard called the Florida holly also.
The children all walked by my painting, everyone of them saying it looked nice. In those exact words! One boy said something different, he thought I was doing a good job. The ranger told me that they had to say something and I told her I thought it was good they were polite. I figure I have a nice looking painting here all those kids can't be wrong.
Its oil, almost all painting knife, lots of texture. 8 x 10 on a luan plywood panel.

Daily Painting 991 Winds at the Old Fort Park Fort Pierce
The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on masonite. This is the site of the old fort on Indian River Drive. This is where the town of Fort Pierce got its name, the fort was named after General Benjamin Pierce. It doesn't look much like this now, you can still see the oak but they did some land clearing a year or so ago so its pretty bare now.

Daily Painting 988 Florida Gallinules Plein Air Alla Prima
In the Savannas Recreational Area again. Beautiful weather and these cool little birds. They were swimming in front of us and would go into the darker green grass and disappear. After awhile they would show up again.
We were having a big discussion what the little birds were, they have bright red beaks. We thought they might be coots or grebes and the first thing I did when I got home was look them up. They are related to coots.
The painting is 5 x 7, oil on masonite. Painted in the open air on location.

Daily Painting 985 Looking for Breakfast White Egret
This started out as a plein air I painted at Heathcote Botanical Gardens here in Fort Pierce. I don't think I ever posted it, I just wasn't happy with the painting. I came across it today and thought it could do with a bird and some flowers so I scraped off some paint and put them in with the little pond.
I like the painting a lot better now. Its 5 x 7, oil, lots of texture from the painting knife.
