I painted this one a few weeks ago out at the Inlet State Park. I was tired and not too happy with the way it looked so I let it sit for awhile.
About a week ago I tweaked it a little and still wasn't happy. Today I picked it up and I think its finally finished! Originally it was very even, palms were very much alike, same colors in them, foreground and background boring. I fixed up the sea grapes under the palms and added the one in the left background. I added the trail and made some of the palms come forward and some go into the back. Some are thinner and some thicker. It made me think of families, how in most families there are differences and similarities in how they look. That is how I came up with the title.

1740 Outback in Indrio Savannas Plein air alla prima
I have been wanting to paint this scene for some years now, its a big hike for me. I figured if I was going to do it, it better be now before I get much more creaky. You walk down the main trail and then take the second left over a little bridge and walk about 10 more miles...well its only about half a mile all together, there and back.
Beautiful day, lots of fish jumping around and I heard a lot of gators grunting. A couple of hikers said they saw five snakes today and a bunch of scrub jays, I didn't see any snakes but I saw a couple of jays.

1739 At the Gardener House Plein Air
Started this one a couple of weeks ago and finished it yesterday. I had some spots that needed tweaking. This is out at the Causeway Park on South Beach, one of the historical buildings there. A fellow came up to me and said he had known the owner when he was growing up. He said it was fun taking the tour, Mr. Gardener had all kinds of memories from when he had lived there.

1738 Palm Shadows Plein Air Alla Prima
I did this at the art show at the Inlet State Park yesterday, it was a fun day, perfect weather out.
I got to share a tent so that made it easier with help watching. This was the view past the tent, the path goes down to the beach.
There are a few flecks of grass on the painting, it was pretty breezy out. They will brush off when the painting is dry.

1737 Alligator Morning Plein Air Alla Prima
I had lots of fun painting this on Thursday, just now posting it! It was a beautiful morning, lots of nice, puffy clouds. When I got up in the morning I thought it would be just blue skies because it was very foggy. But by the time I got out to the paintout site it looked like this. Not too hot or cold, just right. This was painted at the Savannas Recreational area, one of my favorite places to paint. All my troubles melt away its so peaceful there.
Saw lots of little alligators and saw lots of birds. Heard the birds and gators too, the mother or father alligator must have been pretty close. It sounded like it was coming from across the water behind the golden reeds. If you look closely you can see a moorhen, alligator and grackle.
Oh, tomorrow, FEB 10 10 to 3 is the Treasure Coast Party in the Park, at the Inlet State Park on north beach. I am going to be there and have some of my paintings there too. Free admission! There are lots of other things going on too, scroll down, you can read more about it.
