SOLD Its oil on archival mat board, 5 x 7 inches. The background was pretty dark on this one so I thought I would get out some nice bright colors for the fish. Then I thought it looked like they had party colors on.

SOLD Daily Painting 1286 SOLD I'm Crabby are You?
SOLD Actually I am relieved the painting is finished! I painted it and thought it was done. Hubby points out her one eye and claw aren't reading well so I get out my paints and tiny brush and poke and prod at it for awhile, seeing other things that need fixing too. So I get the camera out and then look at my photo of the painting and see some other stuff wrong, get out the brush and paints, made sure it was signed.Painting this crab brought back some memories, when I was around 12 we went across the river to Little Mud Creek. We had some chicken parts and some nets, we would throw the parts into the river and the crabs would come to eat and we could net them up. My mother would cook them and we had them for dinner. Very sweet tasting.
The painting is 5 x 7 inches oil on archival mat board.

Daily Painting 1283 Rainbow Reef Fish Painting
I could have sworn I posted this one already, I was looking through my file and found it. I did it at the Art Bank on some of their open studio nights. I did the background first , let it dry, and then come back and see what I see in it. If I am lucky the fish hint that they are there and I just have to paint them the rest of the way in. They are fantasy fish, out of my head, the big ones look a bit like snook, haven't had any of that in years, snook are one of my favorite fish to eat. Maybe a bit of wishful thinking on my part. Its oil on archival mat board, 5 x 7 inches,

Things have been hectic lately, had out of town company three times, the air conditioner died, it got fixed thank goodness. And of course the Fourth of July. So I haven't been painting much. I was going to try and finish the turtle tonight and the cat has taken over my painting table. The painting is oil on archival mat board and 5 x 7 inches, not for sale at the moment.

Daily Painting 1277 SOLD Camouflage Fish Painting
SOLD I had a time with this one, I started it at the art bank. (they have an open studio on Wednesday nights) I had the background in and my studio partner said she saw a fish in it. I took a look and sure enough, I saw him too. So I started painting him in today, after turning the painting upside down so the sea fan would be growing in the right direction. (click the painting, you can see the texture of the fan better then.)I started with a lion fish. Well, he didn't look good and there was a bunch of commotion going on in the house so I was distracted and I removed him. I put in the eye of the fish, it looked kind of like an eye there already and then the rest of the fish got painted with no more trouble.

Daily Painting 1276 Flock of Spoonbills
I have always liked spoonbills and I felt like painting them. These are on the North Fork of the Saint Lucie river, I haven't seen them very often there so I was thrilled to get to see them this time. This is a memory painting of a scene I remember from my childhood. I spent many happy hours boating with my dad on the North Fork. Its changed so much since then. The painting is a miniature, 4 x 6 inches, oil on masonite,

Daily Painting 1271 SOLD Royal Poinciana on Second Street Plein Air
SOLD I did this during the Souvenirs of Downtown paintout, I hadn't gotten around to posting it, I did tweak it a bit. In real life the trunk of the tree was behind a wall, I didn't think it looked too good that way in the painting so I changed it. I found out if I would moved over a bit, the wall wouldn't be in the way anyhow! Its 12 x 16, oil on masonite.

Daily Painting 1269 Spoonbill Marsh
This was painted from a photo I took at Spoonbill Marsh. Its North of Vero, you need permission to go there. I am planning some paintouts there, and got to go on a tour of it. Its got a big long boardwalk. Vero's drinking water wells have some salt in them. They are using the marsh as a big experiment, they pump the salt water from the Vero wells into it so it doesn't go into the Indian river too fast. They have rafts of mangroves planted and oyster beds. All seem to be growing well.
There is a show planned for paintings from the paintouts in the fall.
The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite,

Daily Painting 1268 Seagrape Lane Heathcote Botanical Gardens
If you have been to Heathcote Botanical gardens I think you will recognize this spot. I always thought the seagrape trees were so cool there, some of the largest I have seen. The painting was fun to do and took me a few days, there is lots of texture and thick paint. It is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite

Daily Painting 1261 SOLD Summer Colors Plein Air Alla Prima
SOLD I painted this at Heathcote Botanical gardens here in Fort Pierce. Its oil painted on varnished plywood, you can see the wood grain, it shows up a bit too much to me in the photo, I think the painting looks much better in person. Not too long after I painted it, I had to pack up and go home, looked like rain and it was getting very dark out. Nice breezy day before that though, not too hot.Monday, May 16, 2011

Daily Painting 1250 Windswept at Ocean Village plein air alla prima
Main Street Fort Pierce is hosting a big paintout this week, it started today and is going on for the next two days. We paint our paintings and then frame them and bring them to the Backus House gallery where they hang them for us. Its lots of fun and they are feeding us breakfast, lunch and dinner each day! Tomorrow and Friday they will have receptions that are open to the public, 5 to 8 in the evening. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, not available here right now, you can get it at the Backus House though. Oh, its painted from life, I was sitting under the oak trees. It was in the morning, not too hot at all. But the sandflies or no-see-ums, acckkk! I have some brand new bug spray, they didn't mind it a bit. The painting was finished pretty fast.

Daily Painting 1247 Stretching to the Water Plein Air Alla Prima
I did this at White City Park, it was perfect out, not hot at all. I was under another oak tree and there was a nice cool breeze. There were some young ospreys fishing, they weren't experts yet. They would crash into the water with a huge splash and three times out of four would come up with out a fish. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite. Tuesday, April 12, 2011
