1632 SOLD Silk Floss Tree at the Causeway Plein Air Alla Prima
SOLD Went painting here today with an old friend, we had lots of fun catching up! Weather was funny, I thought we were going to get rained out, it was totally cloudy and drizzly when I left home. Then it cleared up nice and the sun came out. It started getting cloudy with misty rain and wind and we decided to pack up. I did some heavy editing of the scene, left out building, fence and lots of bushes and palm trees. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

1631 Bamboo at the Richard E. Becker Preserve Plein Air
Last week I saw this grove of bamboo, this is just a small corner. I wanted to paint it so yesterday I did. Much better weather yesterday, not too hot and some blue skies. I had a lot of trouble picking the view to paint, there are about 10 other nice views in the same place! I just need to turn a little ways and there is a possible painting.
Interesting facts about bamboo, its the tallest grass on earth and fastest growing plant in the world.
Bamboo can be used as a building material and young shoots are edible. Bamboo is more difficult to compress than brick, wood or concrete. It is harder to pull apart than steel. It rots a lot slower than many other woods. I have read that it is about 35% more efficient at converting carbon dioxide into oxygen than most other trees. I think we should grow more bamboo!
I heard its invasive. Maybe if the conditions are just right. My dad planted two clumps of bamboo some 50 years ago. I was a small child. There are still two clumps, there are more stalks but its hardly taking over.
The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

Richard E. Becker Preserve - 3398 Selvitz Road, Fort Pierce . There are
lots of nice views, it rained the whole time we were there but there
was a nice gazebo to keep us dry. I changed the weather in the

brown. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

1628 Crinum Lily at Heathcote Botanical Gardens, plein air alla prima
I did this one yesterday at Heathcote, it was a really nice day, started out gray and turned sunny. The arbor is at the entrance of their rain forest, this is looking at the way out to the palm garden. I am very fond of crinum lilies, they have this amazing fragrance that makes me think of home whenever I smell it. My mother used to grow them and I have a few the yard.
The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas mounted on masonite.

1600 SOLD View of the Savannas Bridge Plein Air
SOLD I have been going through my paintings, they had gotten out of control, some I have put aside to tweak, others I had never put on the blog. Then there are a bunch that have been to shows and never got re-filed. This one is a plein air, I painted it earlier this year. I had put it aside because I wanted to brighten up the bridge a bit and add the bird. So it is still considered painted en plein air, as most is from life. I won't call it alla prima any more as it wasn't painted all at one time.
I painted it at the Savanna Recreational area, off Midway road. Its a lovely area, usually lots of birds and tortoises, sometimes you get to see an alligator.
This one is 5 x 7 inches , oil on masonite, lots of textures

1596 Eagle's Roost and Indrio Savannas plein air alla prima
Painted this today, fellow and his dog Clyde came up and he said he liked the painting but I needed to paint the dead tree across the lake. I said it would be a half inch tall. He said, "Yes but its where the eagles sit!" I thought I would give it a try and I think it went pretty well, used my knife. The whole painting was painted with a painting knife, no brush at all. Beautiful day, I got there at 9:30 and there were no clouds at all. Then all of a sudden all these little puffy clouds started showing up. When I finished painting the sky to the west was full of clouds, looked like rain.
