Daily Painting 1051 Rained out in the Savannas! Plein Air Alla Prima

Went out today and the sky looked pretty much like the painting when I got there but that big cloud in the background got closer and closer and pretty soon it began pouring. I took some photos too, the first one you can see the drops and the dead tree in the distance with a bird on it. I zoomed in on the bird and when I got home I saw it was a bald eagle!

I just checked the painting, it survived fine, the rain drops on it are all dried up. I was under a pavilion with fellow Daily Painter Fawn McNeil it was nice painting with her even though it was raining. The painting is 8 x 10 oil, on masonite

SOLD My Painting got in the News today!

SOLD Here is the painting and article below.

— Heathcote Botanical Gardens will present a Bloomin’ Art and Plant Sale April 17 and 18th. Gates are open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 17, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 18.

Now is the time to replace plants that were lost or damaged due to the unusually cold winter. The Bloomin’ Art and Plant Sale will feature dozens of vendors selling a huge variety of plants, including fruit trees, herbs, perennials, bromeliads, orchids, violets, plumerias, ferns, palms, succulents, bamboos, gingers, native and exotic plants. Talk to the experts to get “the right plant in the right place.” The St. Lucie County Master Gardeners, Treasure Coast Bromeliad Society, the Compost Gardener, and professional growers will be on hand to answer all your questions about gardening,

Fine art can bring the beautiful outdoors into your home, and garden art and accessories can brighten any garden. The Bloomin’ Art and Plant Sale includes a show and sale of fine art by Florida artists, including Lori McNamara and Pamela Hoke. Lori’s painting of last year’s Bloomin’ Art and Plant Sale was selected for use on this year’s poster. Visit www.lorisart.blogspot.com to learn more about her “painting a day” philosophy and view over 1,000 inspired paintings. Pamela Hoke recently introduced her Passionate Purpose Project, which pairs her art with a non-profit organization to benefit from her sales. Heathcote will benefit from Pamela’s sales at the Bloomin’ Art and Plant Sale. Learn more about Pamela at http://www.floral-paintings.com/. In addition to professional artists, Heathcote is featuring over 30 “Blooming Artists” – children between the ages of 3 and 18 who visited the Gardens and submitted art work for a free art contest which was sponsored by Treasure Coast Parenting Magazine.

The Fort Pierce Jazz & Blues Society will provide free entertainment, while Jim Gaines and the Heathcote volunteers offer Great Grillin’ on the patio. Free soil testing, seeds and water savers will be available in limited quantities. Free and educational children’s activities are provided. Admission is free for children and Garden members; $6 for non-members, or $3 and 3 cans of food to benefit Mustard Seed Ministries. Proceeds benefit Heathcote Botanical Gardens, which relies upon memberships, events and admissions for operating revenue.

Visitors will also be able to preview plans for the new display garden that is under construction for the James J. Smith Bonsai Collection. Last year, world-renowned bonsai master Jim Smith donated 100 of his finest trees to Heathcote Botanical Gardens on the condition that the collection could be displayed and maintained properly. In March of this year, the St. Lucie County Tourist Development Council awarded Heathcote Botanical Gardens $148,720 of the tourist “bed-tax” funds in a competitive grant program. With capital fund donations and TDC support, Heathcote is building a world-class destination garden for the largest tropical bonsai collection in the U.S.A. Professional design services are being donated by Hayslip Landscape and Moor & Associates, Architects, P.A.

Heathcote Botanical Gardens is a non-profit organization established in 1985 on the former site of Heathcote Nursery. It was expanded in 2000 to its present 5 acres featuring gardens, environmental, and educational programs, and special events throughout the year. Individual, family and corporate memberships are available. For more information, visit www.heathcotebotanicalgardens.org or call (772) 464-4672.
