1680 Indian Hills Lake Plein Air Alla Prima

It was a fun day painting today, beautiful out. Its at Indian Hills Recreational Area North. The photos are the ducks and spatterdock lilies. There are more places to park and enter that I found today. Nice group today, there were around 10 of us.  Lots of birds, the little ducks were all over, saw a hawk and many grackles.  There were some in the tree that I was sitting under and I got bombed a few times.  Luckily missed the painting!

My painting is oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches.

1679 Indian Hills Recreation Area South, Plein Air Alla Prima

I did this one yesterday with my painting group, Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast, good turnout, we had around 10 people come and paint.  This is a new place for us, its a nice park, lots of little bridges and places to fish from.  Nice trail to walk on.  Perfect day, not too hot or cold.  That little red dot under the oak tree is one of the other artists.

1674 Meandering Backwaters plein air alla prima

I painted this today at Richard E. Becker Preserve. Its on Ten Mile Creek, part of the headwaters of the North Fork of the St. Lucie River.  So I kind of messed up with the title of the painting, should have been Meandering Headwaters.  But I like the Backwaters idea better, it feels like you are going back in time at the preserve, lots of tannin in the water, mesmerizing shadows and swirls just under the surface.  I saw one shadowy swirl in the water, looked like a monitor lizard, one of my friends thought it was an alligator.  But it wasn't dark, was light brown, had four legs, tail and head.  So I get up to see and its just a swirl, no animal at all.  I had lots of fun as always.

1673 Lazy Palms Plein air

I did this one out at White City Park awhile ago.  This egret was there and lots of ibis and other kinds of egrets.  The palms were knocked down by a hurricane, used to be three of them.  They lay flat and then the growing parts grow towards the sun and get the interesting curves.  Really not lazy at all but I thought it was a good title.  8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.
