I did this one at the open studio at Art Mundo last night, it was lots of fun painting with everyone. I worked from a photo I took from one of the boardwalks at Pepper Park on Tuesday. I loved all the colors, the seagrapes look so pretty now. The paint is nice and thick on this one, I enjoyed piling it on. The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on masonite. $100.

Daily Painting 1365 Seagrape Splendor Plein air Alla Prima at Pepper Park
I painted this today at Pepper Park. This is on the Indian River side of the park. I started walking around on the ocean side, it was beautiful and I saw a lot of nice scenes to paint but it was very bright out with no shade where I would have to be.I did some editing of the scene, in real life there is a dark black asphalt drive where the sandy trail is. I also left out the trash can and dock. The sea grapes are gorgeous right now, bright red and orange, each leaf is a work of art if you zoom your sight in. It feels so much like fall now, our hickory trees are golden and there are red Virginia creeper vines all over.
The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

Daily Painting 1363 The Bismark Palm at Heathcote Botanical Gardens
I painted this today at Heathcote Botanical Gardens here in Fort Pierce. I have painted this palm before, it has grown a lot taller since I have been painting it. The fronds have changed colors too, when it was young they were a silvery gray. I took some liberties with the background, there are some white walls I didn't care for so I got rid of them. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite. No brush used at all, its all the pallet knife and some blending with my fingers.

Daily Painting 1362 Sheltered Bay Indian River Lagoon
It was hard for me to get painting today, I wasn't feeling too inspired. I cut up an old T-shirt for paint rags and looked through my sketch book. I had a sketch that was sort of like this scene and started painting it. It was hard to stop once I got started. There is some glare on the right, I got busy and couldn't get a photo till tonight. The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite,

Daily Painting 1361 Pelican Pair on the Indian River

This one took a bit longer than usual, I had started the painting and ran out of time, thought I just needed to tweak one of the beaks. I picked it back up today and 40 minutes more of more tweaking than just the beak I feel it is finished. Its oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches. I used one of my son's photos to paint from, his photo blog is here: http://garysphotog.blogspot.com/
Below is a crop of the painting so you can see the details better. To see even better, click the picture.

Daily Painting 1356 Indian River Live Oaks Plein Air Alla Prima
I painted this at the site of the original old fort that Fort Pierce is named after. There is a little park there on Indian River Drive and its a nice place to paint. Someday before I get too old and decrepit I have to work out a small plein air set up so I can climb down the river bank and paint from there, its really pretty down at the shore. The painting is oil on masonite, 12 x 16 inches,

Daily Painting 665 Rain Lilies Florida Native Plants
I tweaked this one a bit, its one I did awhile ago.Rain Lilies or zephyranthes. Zephyranthes means “flower of the south wind” the definition of zephyr means "mild wind" and zephuros in ancient Greek means “west wind.” Another name is fairy lilies. They are a very nice little plant, they bloom right after it rains and in my yard need little care. These plants can be planted in Florida as low ground covers, they make fine borders and need no care. The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil
