Daily Painting 1278 The Disgruntled Octopus

The octopus thought he had a nice fish dinner coming but they swam the other way instead.
I had fun painting this, I do the eyes of an animal or person pretty early on in the painting, I can daydream about what is going on then as I paint. The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on archival mat board,

Daily Painting 1277 Camouflage Fish Painting

I had a time with this one, I started it at the art bank. (they have an open studio on Wednesday nights) I had the background in and my studio partner said she saw a fish in it. I took a look and sure enough, I saw him too. So I started painting him in today, after turning the painting upside down so the sea fan would be growing in the right direction. (click the painting, you can see the texture of the fan better then.)

I started with a lion fish. Well, he didn't look good and there was a bunch of commotion going on in the house so I was distracted and I removed him. I put in the eye of the fish, it looked kind of like an eye there already and then the rest of the fish got painted with no more trouble.

Daily Painting 1276 Flock of Spoonbills

I have always liked spoonbills and I felt like painting them. These are on the North Fork of the Saint Lucie river, I haven't seen them very often there so I was thrilled to get to see them this time. This is a memory painting of a scene I remember from my childhood. I spent many happy hours boating with my dad on the North Fork. Its changed so much since then. The painting is a miniature, 4 x 6 inches, oil on masonite,

Daily Painting 1271 SOLD Royal Poinciana on Second Street Plein Air

SOLD I did this during the Souvenirs of Downtown paintout, I hadn't gotten around to posting it, I did tweak it a bit. In real life the trunk of the tree was behind a wall, I didn't think it looked too good that way in the painting so I changed it. I found out if I would moved over a bit, the wall wouldn't be in the way anyhow! Its 12 x 16, oil on masonite.

Daily Painting 1269 Spoonbill Marsh

This was painted from a photo I took at Spoonbill Marsh. Its North of Vero, you need permission to go there. I am planning some paintouts there, and got to go on a tour of it. Its got a big long boardwalk. Vero's drinking water wells have some salt in them.

They are using the marsh as a big experiment, they pump the salt water from the Vero wells into it so it doesn't go into the Indian river too fast. They have rafts of mangroves planted and oyster beds. All seem to be growing well.

There is a show planned for paintings from the paintouts in the fall.

The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite,
