Daily Painting 135 Saint Lucie River Plein Air at White City Park

Its a 12 by 16 painting, plein air, oil, knife and a little brush. One of those days, I took a little break, talked to some of the other painters, I have joined a new plein air club to the south of me. Come back and find the painting had blown down and had sand and dirt in the corners. I got it pretty much fixed, have to let it dry to get the rest off.

I get home, make myself some cocoa in the microwave and my cup ranneth over in a big way all over the oven. Collapsed on the couch, dog pats me on the face and scratched it. Hubby tells me I need to touch up yesterday's painting, he moved it and didn't know it was wet. Got a couple of his fingerprints on it. Can't have that, years from now they will think he painted it!

Hopefully I will survive the rest of today!

Daily Painting 130 Linoleum Cut Palms on the Indian River

I am experimenting with some new linoleum, or new to me anyway. Its supposed to be easy to cut and it is pretty much. The first is the first print, I'll probably deepen some cuts here and there. The second is me just starting the cutting and the last is the linoleum pretty much finished.

Daily Painting 126 Halstrom's Barn on Old Dixie Highway

This is from a photo I took while driving by the barn, I took a few liberties, made Old Dixie Highway curve the other way and removed the paving and planted some hibiscus.

I have a vague memory as a child of going to the Halstroms, they had a big telescope and they let my parents and I look at the moon through it.

The painting is 5 x 7, oil, all knife.

Daily Painting 125 Mother of Thousands

These are blooming now, they are very pretty like a cluster of bells. The name is from their habit of growing little plantlets on their leaves in great numbers. The little plantlets fall off and most will start to grow.

The painting is 5 x 7 watercolor paint sticks, something I am experimenting with.

Daily Painting 123 Plein Air Palm Cluster

I painted this one in Vero, its 8 x 10, oil, all knife, a different type of palm than usual, not sure of the type, I will have to look it up. I was a bit frazzled, I have to add another trunk to it. There were some bums about and it made me nervous, I was the first to show up for our paint out. It started badly, I put the paint blobs on the panel instead of my palette, really twittery!

Daily Painting 118 Work in Progress 3 Royal Poinciana

Its getting there slowly. I added a shadow on the path and some darker leaves and flowers. Poinciana flowers look like a red-orange orchid with one white petal when you look closely at them so I added the white petals. I added some fallen petals underneath the tree.

Also sanded a bunch of panels for new paintings, I was running low.

Daily Painting 118 Work in Progress 2 Royal Poinciana

I worked all day on this one today. I did the little background palms and the tree top. Then the palms to the right and started the lawn. Third is close to finished, I'll tweak it a bit here and there. I need a shadow across the path for one thing.

Daily Painting 118 Work in Progress Royal Poinciana

This will probably take me a few days, its 18 x 24 inches. Excuse the glare, I will try and get a better photo tomorrow. It will have a royal poinciana tree to the left and some cabbage palms in the background with a path leading to the water. Its oil and so far all knife painted. Its a studio painting from my imagination. I will be looking at my palms and poinciana tree tomorrow while I paint and the sky is how it was today. My poinciana tree has no blooms and very few leaves, it is like northern trees, it drops its leaves in the winter. Its a good time to see its structure anyhow.

Daily Painting 117 Windy Day on Jungle Trail

Chilly, windy day on Jungle Trail in Wabasso. I am almost out of small 5 x 7 and 8 x 10 panels so I had to do a 12 x 16, what I used to paint on the most. (they fit in my paint box slots) It felt huge! Yesterday it was 85 degrees and today it dropped down to 60 when I was painting, not used to that kind of weather. I was glad to get home to some nice hot coffee.

Daily Painting 112 Plein Air Rainy Nocturne

SOLDIts 8 x 10, oil all knife. Plein Air, Alla Prima. Yesterday the moon was so pretty I was sorry I hadn't tried to paint it. So I took note of the time of the moon rise tonight, spent about an hour waiting for it to appear over the clouds on the horizon. I finally said I had enough, got my paints out and sat out front and started the painting. I figured I would put in the moon when it made its appearance. Well, it never showed up, it started raining instead. I didn't get too wet it just now started raining hard. I am happy with the way it came out and so is one of my friends who came by and purchased it.
