Daily Painting 187 Work in Progress Fort Pierce Inlet State Park

Sometimes a painting just doesn't work. The lower painting is what resulted when I took a piece of newspaper and pressed it onto the bad, wet painting. The image is what remained after the newspaper was pulled off. I am liking it better already!

I wish I had taken a photo before but I was aggravated at myself and didn't even think about it. It had been a plein air sea grape tree.

Then I put the image into photoshop and started to play with the composition and photoshop filters. The offending image was too centered with two even tree trunks so I added the trunk to the right and came up with the top image. I'll try and translate something like that into paint on the original board in the next day or so.

Its 8 x 10 oil, or the original one is anyhow! The new one only exists in the computer at the moment. Click on them to make them bigger, the texture on both is interesting.

Daily Painting 178 Edenlawn Plantation Pink Cottage

I painted this one today, I liked how the cottage looked with all the palm trees around so nothing would do but to paint it pretty big, 12 x 16. It looked like rain so I had my plan, there is a little shed nearby I could duck into if I had to. For some reason I don't have a photo of the shed, I got to get one next time. Its tall enough to sit in but not stand up in. I think it must have been a planting shed. The roof has two feet tall plants growing up on top, lucky leaf kalanchoes. It must have rained on and off 6 times. I would stick the paints in my painting box, grab the chair and run into the shed. I thought I would never get done, probably took twice as long as usual. Its oil, all knife, plein air, alla prima.

Daily Painting 167 Finished Boat at the Vero Beach Marina

Its finally finished, its 8 x 10, oil, painting knife and brush. $200. Whoops! I guess it isn't quite done. My good friend and fellow artist, Helen Zapata, caught it. I forgot about the anchor line, I decided to give the boat a wake and there the poor thing is still tied up. Well, I am not going to re-take the photo tonight, I will fix it tomorrow.

Daily Painting 165 Boat at the Vero Beach Marina work in progress

I was very tired today, I am not happy with the way the painting came out so I am scraping off parts. The boat looks small instead of at a distance like its supposed to. The fault is partly the spiderlilies to the left, they are on the same plane as the boat. If I bring them down and the boat up, it should help. I'll try and post the results tomorrow, but its shaping up to be a very busy day. I am painting in the morning at Edenlawn Plantation again and we are having out of town company.
